This PID HC vs Surefire X300 UB?

Received both this PID HC & the Surefire X300 UB (purchased elsewhere) this week.Saw a lot of reviews (here) complaining about the switch activation on the PID HC compared to the Surefire. I beg to differ. For me, the PID HC feels more user friendly. I’m right handed & activating/deactivating the light with my left thumb while keeping my right index on the trigger is far more practical/natural than the toggle up/down switch of the Surefire using my left thumb. To each its own, though. Your mileage may vary.I’m impressed with the build quality & feel of the PID HC. It’s got good heft and I love that it includes the multi-tool. It’s quite sexy as well, for a weapon light. Light output is great for EDC & I love the two light modes by holding the paddle for a few seconds. The charging cable may be the only slight concern. It works well, but not as secure of a magnet. It has a charging indicator which is nice. The Surefire X300 uses two C123A, which could simply be swapped out.I’ll be keeping the Surefire as it’s one of the few weapon light options for a IWB Tier1 holster for the SA XDM Elite, but I actually prefer the PID HC (purchased for my SA Echelon).Very pleased overall. Will report back if my position changes. Great buy so far.

    Solid construction

I really like this light so far. It seems to be built very stout. Not a ton of spill but the beam is very bright and has good throw. Especially for a light designed for a handgun, as to be expected on the HC (high candela) model. The charging cord is quality and I like that I can have it charging on the nightstand and just grab and go. The magnet is just the right strength. At this price I will be getting another.

    Good, not great

Good light output and spill on my G17, but the button actuation is not great placement for secure use. The surefire and streamlight are more user friendly when it comes to using this light.

Good Features but Not My Top Choice

This review is for the Holosun P.ID-HC Light. I did extensive research of all the lights I could find in this size category. I was looking for a high candela light, since in most cases I get the most benefit from high candela. High candela can push through photonic barriers, such as glass or other light sources. High candela also has the advantage of being disorientating against another individual. After looking at everything, I had narrowed my selection down to this Holosun P.ID-HC and the SureFire X300 Turbo. The SureFire does outperform this Holosun, but it is also double the price.I ordered the Holosun for a few reasons. It had good candela output at 42,000, even though the SureFire has 66,000. It also has good lumen at 800, and for comparison the SureFire has 650 lumen. It’s pretty much universally true that as you increase candela lumen decreases. I prefer paddle switches over toggle switches, but each has their pros and cons. Switches are really going to come down to a personal usage preference. I also like that this light is rechargeable with a magnetic cable to the light. There is no need to remove the battery or have a separate charger. Also, if you do have to replace the battery, the light unscrews, so you don’t have to detach the whole light. The paddles have momentary, constant, and lock out controls. There is also a high and low mode for the light. Rated run time is not very long, so if use it regularly, you will need that easy recharging feature. The Holosun being half the price of the SureFire also heavily worked in its favor.I have had good luck with Holosun products, but the first Holosun P.ID-HC I received did not turn on. I sent it into Holosun for warranty replacement, and the replacement one works just fine. However, it was a significant turn off that it didn’t work out of the box. I also didn’t like the paddle switches on this light like I thought I would. I will say the recharging setup and front-loading battery is super convenient. The light body and switches feel solid, but again the first one did not work out of the box. Due to my dislike of the switch and defective unit I decided to go with a different solution. I was going to purchase the SureFire X300 Turbo and just before I made the SureFire purchase, I saw the Olight PL Turbo and went that route instead.
